We are just back from a GLORIOUS week in Greece. We were out there for the Greek leg of one of my closest friends' wedding to a magnificent Greek but also managed to squeeze in a few days of total down time at the Ekies All Senses Resort in Halkidiki.
Ekies brands itself as something I considered to be a complete oxymoron - a stylish and relaxed 'family friendly' resort! Whilst we had no need for the family friendly part I was seduced by the lush design and interiors on Mr and Mrs Smith and we thought we'd give it a go. It was a total winner. We spent most of our days lazing on the pier that juts out to sea, doing very little more than reading, tanning, chatting and drinking.
When I managed to rouse myself I had a fantastic massage in the spa (which was totally bargainous as spas go) and one afternoon we hired a boat and drove around the local beaches and islands, stopping off at a recommended restaurant for fresh grilled fish and the daily helping of feta. The hotel restaurant was also fantastic and the bar served the best pina coladas I've ever tasted (and I've done some extensive research). It's one of those hotels you discuss re-booking for next year before you've even left and I am sure that we will be back.
At the end of our trip we spent two nights in Thessaloniki, Greece's second city which is full of cafes, restaurants, bars and some pretty swanky shops. I just love cities on the water. We didn't hit the tourist trail much beyond walking up the White Tower but had an incredible night at Shark restaurant and bar dancing the night away to celebrate K and Pavlos' marriage. We also had a delicious lunch at Kitchen Bar on the water which had a lovely vibe to it.
It was one of those trips that lets you store up the sun for the autumn and winter to come - so good for the soul and it's furnished me with a tan that may even last a full week!
